Ocean Import Break Bulk Coordinator:

Salary Range           : Competitive - based on experience

Position Description Summary:

  • Understand the processes involved in international shipping from time of purchase order placement to delivery of cargo at ultimate destination, as applicable.
  • Understand the terminology related to international shipping.
  • Process and coordinate assigned import transportation files from overseas offices, which includes reviewing documentation and entering file data, including but not limited to, opening the file, entering the applicable data elements, billing the file, issuing applicable forms and documents and closing the file.
  • Research and resolve any overseas office/agent accounting, insurance, or other issues, as applicable.
  • Communicate clearly, timely, effectively and accurately with brokers regarding all assigned origins/customers.
  • Coordinate with steamship lines and other third parties when handling files.
  • Track, trace and maintain current information and/or event updates for brokers and customers.
  • Coordinate with agents regarding statements, rates and settlements.
  • Check and understand customer sell rates, utilizing Excel and other proprietary software.
  • Work with sale reps regarding rate questions and concerns.
  • Understand and act on any required documents to be surrendered or received for timely release of shipment.
  • Coordinate with truckers for quotes, dispatches and PODs when required.
  • Understand all rates applied by the carriers for each customer and applicable shipment.
  • Understand transit times, inbound shipments, FIRMS codes, AMS requirements, and ISF issues as part of the full transportation process.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and instructions as published in the Breakbulk Manual.
  • Other job duties or projects, as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 2-5 years industry experience, but will train the right person. A broker license holder would be a plus.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions.
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize.
  • Good math skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a very time sensitive environment.
  • Quick learner who likes to be challenged and has a can do attitude.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • College graduates required.

Essential Functions:
Must be able to pass any federal/state/local government, airport, or company-required background checks, clearances, and/or drug and alcohol tests.
